I’m glad I was born today, I’m glad my parents brought me up with values and with respect for others. I’ve worked hard all my life but a few years ago I felt I needed a new direction. I went back to collegein the evenings and retrained as a teacher. Now I spend my days helping underprivileged children improve their lives. It’s tiring but I’ve never felt more alive!

It is thought that the large-scale celebration of birthdays in Europe began with the cult of Mithras, which originated in Persia but was spread by soldiers throughout the Roman Empire.
